How to Make the Android Keyboard Bigger
Sometimes the keyboard on your Android device is too small. Luckily, we’ll show you how to make the Android keyboard bigger on your phone.
To make your mobile experience easier to navigate, you can change the font size on Android. Once the text, font, and icons are easier to see, you might also want to make the Android keyboard bigger.
Depending on your phone, the small keys on the onscreen keyboard can be challenging to see and touch for typing. A small size can be especially problematic if you use your thumbs for typing.
Luckily, the default keyboard (and other keyboards you may install) can be adjusted for easier typing. So, in this guide, we’ll show you how to make the keyboard on your phone bigger. We’ll also demonstrate how to make it smaller if it takes up too much space on the screen.
How to Adjust Keyboard Size on Google Pixel
If you are experiencing a challenging time typing on your Android device because the keyboard is too tiny, you can make it bigger. A Pixel runs stock Android, and the steps will be standard on many phones.
Make the Android Keyboard Bigger
- Launch an app for typing, like Chrome, or begin composing a text message so the onscreen keyboard appears on the screen.
- Tap the Gboard toolbar icon on the top left — it looks like four squares with a circle encompassing them.
- Tap the Resize button when the options appear on the menu.
- Drag the blue handle at the top to make the keyboard size larger.
- You can pull it up to make it as large as you want, within reason. For example, when you get to the maximum large size, the outline around the keyboard will appear red.
- After resizing, tap the checkmark icon on top of the keyboard to save the size change.
Reduce the Size of Your Android Keyboard
If the keyboard takes up too much screen real estate, you can make it smaller using the following steps.
- Open the keyboard on your Android device.
- Tap the toolbar icon for more options.
- Tap the Resize icon when the keyboard options appear.
- Drag the top tab toward the bottom of the screen. Once you reach the maximum smallness, the outline will turn red.
- Once you have achieved the size you want, tap the checkmark icon inside the outline of the keyboard to save the changes.

- Tap the three-dot button on the keyboard’s toolbar.
- Select the Keyboard size button from the list of options.
- Drag the blue handle down to reach a more manageable level.
- The outline around the keyboard will appear red when it is as small as possible.
- Tap the Done button once the keyboard is the size you want.

Resizing the Keyboard on Your Android Device
Whether you make the Android keyboard larger or smaller, your selected size will reflect throughout your Android experience. Just remember that when you make the keyboard bigger, it uses more screen real estate.
So, you will need to do more scrolling while searching the web, for example. But the good news is you can always make it smaller or reset the keyboard’s size.
If you increase the size of the fonts, text, and icons on the Android screen, larger or not, you might want to make the keyboard bigger for a more effortless typing experience.
