The privacy-focused services company, Proton, is adding to its list of products with Proton Docs in Proton Drive. Use it today!

Proton is a company that offers privacy-focused services like Proton Mail, a VPN, Proton Pass, and others. It is announcing the launch of Docs in Proton Drive, which is meant to compete with Google Docs.

The service will immediately allow users to use privacy-first document editors as a productivity tool. It offers end-to-end encrypted document creation, editing, and collaboration.

In a recent blog post, Proton exec Anant Vijay notes, “No major document editor protects your data with end-to-end encryption by default, which leaves your documents vulnerable to hackers and data breaches. When companies can decrypt your data, it’s like leaving the key next to the safe.”

This news means that you can rest assured that the online documents you create in Proton Drive will be protected from using your content to track you across the web and use your documents to train “privacy-invading” AI models.

Using Docs in Proton Drive

Creating your documents in Proton is intuitive, and editing them is straightforward. Proton Docs looks a lot like Google Docs. It has white pages, a formatting toolbar at the top, live indicators when multiple people are editing, and the standard features you would expect.

Proton Docs was expected, as the privacy-focused company’s other services, like Proton Drive, will be well integrated. This is especially true since the company recently announced that it acquired Standard Notes. The service is meant to give users a private and secure online document creation experience. It will provide an alternative to the less privacy-friendly services from Microsoft and Google.

In addition to having the same look and feel as Google Docs, Proton Docs has the editing tools you would expect. The first version has rich text features, editing, multimedia support, real-time collaboration, and more. It also supports various file types, like DOCX, which you can use with Microsoft Word.

Currently, the Docs feature in Proton Drive is web-only and optimized for the desktop. However, this new service is expected to roll out for other platforms soon enough.

The editor currently has the essential document creation tools. So, you’ll miss out if you rely on more feature-rich word-processing solutions like Microsoft Word and Google Docs. But you have the basics to create, edit, and share them from Proton Drive.

Secure and Privacy-Focused Document Creation with Proton Docs

Proton Docs focuses on privacy, security, and ease of use. You can enjoy end-to-end encryption in everything you do with the document. In fact, Proton notes that even keystrokes and cursor movements are encrypted.

However, it is important to note that the main things missing are Spreadsheets and Presentations. Still, we’ll likely see those abilities in Proto Docs at some point in the future. So, for now, enjoy your private, secure, and encrypted documents via Proton Drive.
