How to Enable Two Factor Authentication on your Trello Account

When it comes to Security, there are no solutions that will protect you 100%. This is true for both digital and physical security. Of course, this doesn’t mean we should just sit back and open our gates to whoever wants to march in.
Action can and should be taken to add as many effective security layers as possible. In the case of locking down your Trello account and the data it contains, both strong passwords and Two Factor Authentication (2fa), aka, Two-Step Verification (2SV) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) can be very effective.
How to Enable Two Factory Authentication for your Trello Account
- Click Account icon.

- Click My Settings.
- Toggle on the second factor of authentication you want to use. You can choose SMS or using an authenticator app.
- Enter Username and Password again to confirm you want to enable 2FA (Two Factor Authentication)
- Follow the onscreen instructions to complete setting up the second layer or authentication you want to use. Note that this step will vary based on whether you use SMS or an authethenticator app.
Once you follow the steps, Trello will display a screen that letting you that Two Factor Authentication is enabled. Be sure to log out and log in again to verify all is working as expected. This is also where you can move 2fa over to an SMS device or disable 2fa completely on your Trello Account.
To keep your online accounts secure, it’s important to enable 2fa everywhere that offers it. The security solution has been around since 2012 and is available for virtually every online account you have. Also, a modern solution is adding passkeys to your online accounts which provides a secure and passwordless sign in experiece.
But even if you use passkeys, make sure to set up 2fa so you still have an additional layer of security that compliments your username and strong and complex password.
