Got a favorite song you want to share with your Facebook friends? Use this guide to help you get started adding music to your Facebook profile.

You might personalize your Facebook profile, but that’s usually limited to pictures. A cover photo or a new profile picture will freshen things up, but if you want to add a unique bit of personalization, you could try adding music to your Facebook profile. You might already know you can add music as a post to your Facebook profile, but you can also add music temporarily in the stories you post. I’ll explain how to do this below.

How to Add Music to Your Facebook Profile

Personalizing your Facebook profile with music is a great way to showcase your tastes and share your favorite artists with your friends. The process involves adding music to a post that you then share with your timeline.

There’s a catch, however. You can only add music to your Facebook profile if you’re using the mobile app. Desktop users will see the music post, but you won’t be able to add a music post without using Facebook on mobile. To add music to your Facebook profile, follow these steps.

1. Open the Facebook app on your mobile device.
2. Tap the What’s on your mind? bar at the top.
   
3. In the Create post menu, scroll to the bottom and select Music.
   
4. Use the search bar to find a song that you like, then select it.
   
5. You’ll be returned to the Create Post menu. You can type an extra message or set additional settings, such as limiting visibility to only certain users.
6. When you’re ready, tap Post to post the music to your timeline.
   

The post containing your song will become visible on your profile. You can repeat it to post other artists, but the most recent post will take precedence, with older posts falling further down your Facebook timeline.

How to Add Music to a Facebook Story

A Facebook story is a short-form video that can include photos, text, and audio, including music. It’s only visible on Facebook for a short time, so if you want to show off some music (temporarily), you could do so by adding music to your Facebook story. To add a song to your Facebook Story, follow these steps.

1. Open the Facebook app on your device.
2. Tap the Add icon in the top-right, then select Story from the drop-down menu.
   
3. In the Create story menu, tap the Music option.
   
4. Use the search tool to find a song that you want to add, then select it.
   
5. Once you’ve chosen a song, you can add other elements to your story, such as text, a background, or an image. You can also set the visibility for the story, limiting who can view it, by tapping Privacy in the bottom-right before posting.
6. Tap Share to post the story to your Facebook profile.
   

Once posted, the Facebook story will become visible to your friends. It’ll appear for 24 hours—after that, the story will disappear from view. You can also manually remove the story from your Facebook profile before the 24-hour period has ended.

If you’re a music fan, share your taste with your Facebook friends and add music to your Facebook profile. You can do this permanently or temporarily via your Facebook stories using the steps above.
