1080p Comes To YouTube
Home video cameras have really come a long way over the past few years. So much in fact, that Google is adding 1080p HD support to YouTube. While it’s true YouTube is already bloated with an outdated layout and slow 720p support, I suspect updates for that will be coming up quickly out of pure necessity.
The update is to take place next week, starting November 15. The 1080p support will incorporate already uploaded videos in that quality. According to YouTube regarding people who’ve already uploaded 1080p quality videos
“We’re in the process of re-encoding your videos so we can show them the way you intended.”
This is exciting news, but really only if you have an internet connection that can handle the huge file size of the higher-quality videos.

Hold on a sec, what is this “1080p?”
Full HDTV, or 1080p is merely a video with an original resolution of 1920×1080 pixels (or 1,080 tv lines). The p stands for progressive scan, which is a format used to decode images that prevent image flicker, unlike the interlacing method used in 1080i. One thing to keep in mind though is just because a display can use that resolution doesn’t necessarily mean it can support 1080p. In reality, many low-end devices that advertise “Full HD” will only be able to display 720p or at best 1080i so be sure to double-check when you are picking up a new screen. Most of the newer televisions that are being manufactured this year support 1080p, as do many of the monitors and some laptops.
But in other words, 1080p is very groovy picture quality.
