How to Remove Windows Hello Fingerprint on Windows 10

If you’ve used your fingerprint to log in to Windows 10 there may come a time when you want to remove the data. Here’s how.

If your laptop has a fingerprint reader Microsoft allows you to log in to Windows 10 using your finger(s). But if your laptop doesn’t have a built-in fingerprint reader you can add an external sensor. One that connects to your laptop via USB.

If you have used your fingerprint to sign in to Windows 10, there might come a time when you no longer need it. For example, there might be a time when you want to delete all your fingerprints and reset the feature if it’s not working properly. Whatever the reason, you can remove fingerprint data and disable the biometric authentication feature. After removing the fingerprint data you can still sign in using a password or PIN that you’ve set up.

Remove Windows Hello Fingerprint Data from Windows 10

Open Settings on Windows 10 by using the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I. Then click on Accounts.

Next, click the Sign-in options entry from the list on the left panel. Under the “Manage how you sign in to your device” section select the Windows Hello Fingerprint option. Then click the Remove button and click it again to verify you want to remove the fingerprint data. You may be asked to enter your system’s password to confirm the deletion.

After you’ve removed the fingerprint data you can still log in using your Microsoft account password or PIN if you created one.

To enter in new fingerprint data click the “Set up” button. Then follow the onscreen instructions to make your way through the setup wizard. You will be asked to enter your PIN or password first. Then start swiping the finger you want to use on the sensor until Windows is able to get a full reading of the print. Once it’s complete you’ll see a message asking to add another fingerprint for later. Once it’s set up you can swipe your finger on the sensor to log into your PC.
